THE OTTER ROUNDABOUT - WHY, in brief!

Updated: Dec 2, 2021

THE A320 ‘OTTER ‘ ROUNDABOUT – IN A NUTSHELL!

Runnymede Council was told by central government to build over 550 houses a year across the borough.

Traffic from RBC, also from Woking and Surrey Heath, heads to the M25; on the A320, a recognised traffic ‘hotspot’.

A Planning Inspector required plans for works to the A320 to deal with the additional traffic. We all saw the original plans for SCC’s hideous roundabout!

Surrey County Council, the responsible highways authority, has had £42 million granted by government to be spent on the A320 by 2024.

SCC wasted 3 years while they did not engage with informed local people with professional support, offering better and safer proposals.

We have managed to get some worthwhile changes to their original plans: incl. improved car parking, reduction in proposed size, moved away from Brox Hall - but there is little chance SCC will improve their current inadequate proposals.

Work and disruption on the ‘Otter’ Roundabout will take 2 years to complete.

Local residents will live with the consequences for long afterwards.

No doubt further revision will be required for the next phase of housing development within 5 – 10 years!

That’s it ‘in a nutshell’, somewhat disappointing, but is anyone surprised?

OWARA communicates with local residents to keep them informed and to represent their views.
